Tell us about your two online businesses, book designing and being an angel teacher & professional intuitive …

I’m a book & publications designer as well as an Angel Teacher & professional intuitive. Both online service businesses although I sometimes do give in-person card readings as well as virtual ones. The book work is B2B while the spiritual work is B2C. I sometimes also provide telemarketing services too.

Tell us when and why you started your own business? What was going on for you at the time?

I started my book design business seriously in July 2019 when I was made redundant from my day job. My spiritual biz has been around since 2008.

Leesa Ellis - two online businesses

How did you initially get your two online businesses noticed? What were the first few steps you took to put yourself out there?

I put up my first website in April 2010. For the book work, I have been making one to one approaches by phone and am also active on select social media.

What is the main social media platform you focus on to market your two online businesses?

Pinterest for the book work and FB for the spiritual.

How do you market your two online businesses?

Telemarketing, my website blog, and social media. I also use Pinterest.

What’s the best thing about running your own business?

The relief from pressure to be go, go, go all day. I can work hard when I need to but I answer to myself. It’s also nice to be able to have a cup of tea when I want.

What is the worst thing about running your own business?

The isolation and procrastination but Creative Women’s Mastermind helps with that as I’m a member of The Mastermind Lounge. The weekly coworking sessions and mastermind is a huge support with loneliness and isolation.

What has been the biggest challenge so far in your business journey and how did you overcome it?

Finding the resources to market myself and my products and services well.

What are your go to tips, tools or techniques to overcome the tough days? i.e what keeps you motivated!

I limit my telemarketing time to about 1 hour a day. It’s enough to make connections without overwhelming me. I use the Pomodoro Technique too when I’m not coworking with the ladies in the lounge.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?

To keep going and not give up.

If you started your businesses again with hindsight and the knowledge and experience you have gained so far, is there anything you would do differently, and if so, what?

I would have devoted more healing time to mindset. Overwhelm was huge for me with a full-time job and a house to run too. Finding ways to manage that is important.

What’s your favourite way to consume content; video, audio or reading?

Audio, I love audio books.

What has been the most helpful business/self-help book that you would recommend reading?

I love the book I’m listening to now on Divine Abundance – “It’s Not Your Money,” by Tosha Silver.

How do you make sure you achieve your weekly, monthly and quarterly goals and actions? i.e. do you use asana, have a coach, accountability buddy etc.

I’m a Planning Queen and schedule time to plan out goals. I time block extensively in my online Calendar for all tasks. If it’s in my diary, it happens. I use Trello but Calendar is my main tool. I just signed up for Plutio to bring several different apps under one tool.

Where do you hope to be this time next year in your businesses?

Earning a full-time income from my design work!

What’s your favourite inspirational quote?

All is full of love – Bjork.

What would you say to somebody who is thinking of starting a business now?

It can be a side hustle until you’re ready, don’t feel like you have to give everything up until it’s grown a bit. My spiritual biz was a side hustle for 9 years and I’ve been doing a little book design work for an American publisher since April 2019. You can try it out to see if you have the passion for it first.
