Kathryn King talks about her online chakra business journey so far…
Tell us about your online chakra business; e.g. when did you start, is it service or product based, who do you serve and why, is it online, or a local business, or both?
My Chakra Life in its current form has been in operation for about six months but has been an idea in my head for much longer!
Currently, I work as a Chakra Healer conducting ‘in-person’ healing sessions for a small number of clients locally – mostly friends and word of mouth introductions. I am mainly focused on creating an online chakra business. A series of signature programmes and a membership introducing busy women to the benefits of harnessing the power of their Chakra System. This will help them to create small but powerful changes in their lives to become unstoppable!
Tell us when and why you started your own business? What was going on for you at the time?
My Chakra Life began about six years ago as a vague idea about wanting to share how I live ‘My Chakra Life‘. I was running a company called Chakra Cushions at the time and was making soft furnishings designed to support Chakra and meditation practice and wanted to go deeper into how the Chakra System worked and supported my life. It was something I kept meaning to come back to, but never quite found the time!
I have run a few other businesses since then, but none of them felt really aligned or, to be honest, were that financially successful. I was still dabbling with a bit of meditation, crystal and colour work, but not really going deep.
nearly two years ago now, when my world fell apart. My parents died. Both of them. Two months apart to the day. When my father died, I dropped everything and moved home to look after my mother who was seriously ill and passed away exactly two months later. It tore me apart and for the next year or so, I couldn’t really focus on anything. But I came back to my Chakra practice and began to rely on it more and more to provide some stability.
Six months ago, I decided to make it official and qualified as a Chakra Healer accredited by the British Complementary Medicine Association and that’s when my online chakra business journey started and My Chakra Life really took shape. I wanted to share the system that had helped me through so much in my life including the loss of my parents.
So, here I am! Working 121 with clients and developing my signature programme for professional women who feel busy, anxious, overwhelmed, or ‘stuck’, who have an interest/curiosity in spiritual modalities and energy healing, and who may have tried ‘traditional’ ways of coping/dealing with life’s challenges with limited success, and wonder if there is another way.
How did you initially get your online Chakra business noticed? What were the first few steps you took to put yourself out there?
I’m still very much in the ‘get noticed’ stage of my business! My 121 practice is totally word of mouth really and I’m in control of who I choose to work with. Online, my biggest strategy was simply telling my story. It was something I have never felt comfortable with before, but i decided the time had come to own it, tell it, and help others to do the same. So, I built my website, Facebook page and Facebook Group all around introducing others to the power of the Chakra System, sharing my story, and supporting others to do the same.
What is the main social media platform you focus on to market your online Chakra business?
Facebook – I’m a true Gen Xer and Facebook is my platform of choice! I have a page and a group. I also post on Instagram, but need to work on stories. I’m not really sure what they’re for!!!
How do you market your online chakra business?
Purely online and word of mouth at the moment.
What’s the best thing about running your own business?
Flexibility and freedom. I have suffered with social anxiety all my life, but it came to head about six years ago when it became so debilitating I had to leave my corporate job. In my current situation – working for myself – I get to choose. I can choose my hours, my clients, my goals and my agenda. It gives me a level of control, safety and comfort that allows me to deal with my anxiety on my terms, so I can always bring my best to everything I do.
What is the worst thing about running your own business?
It can get lonely – and the buck stops here, right? When you are responsible for all the decisions, without having a ‘sounding board’, that can increase the pressure. But, I have found having a group of supportive business women around me (mostly virtual – but still available to bounce off) has helped enormously.
What has been the biggest challenge so far in your business journey and how did you overcome it?
Being vulnerable and sharing my story. I have learnt that I just need to get out of my own way and accept that I will feel uncomfortable sometimes.

What are your go to tips, tools or techniques to overcome the tough days? i.e what keeps you motivated!
Tea – I drink a lot of tea!!! 😂 Meditation has been a game-changer for me. Starting the day with meditation, visualisation and journalling sets me up for everything to come and helps me get clarity right from the get go. Also, think about the energy you are bringing to your business – especially when you are ‘creating’. If you are coming from a place of fear, urgency or lack then that will be reflected in your results. I know it’s easier said than done sometimes, but if you feel like that, try and get away. Change the energy, go for a walk, cuddle a puppy, eat some ice cream; whatever it is for you that will activate your joy centre. Then come back to whatever you were doing before! It will still be there, but you will be very different.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?
Sometimes good enough is good enough! Many of us strive for unattainable perfection. This stops us from creating the thing the world needs us to create! Someone somewhere needs to read that blog post, watch that video, listen to that podcast. Whether the artwork is ‘perfect’, or the camera work is slick, or you can hear a dog bark in the background won’t change the lives you might touch and the difference you could make – so do it!!! I also need to take this on board more!!!
If you started your business again with hindsight and the knowledge and experience you have gained so far, is there anything you would do differently, and if so, what?
Not really, but then it is very early days for me in my online chakra business – ask me in a year!!!!!
What’s your favourite way to consume content; video, audio or reading?
I’m a reader and writer. I love to read – blogs, magazines, books – I’ll read it!
What has been the most helpful business/self-help book that you would recommend reading?
How do you make sure you achieve your weekly, monthly and quarterly goals and actions? i.e. do you use asana, have a coach, accountability buddy etc.
I have a coach – I’m also a member of the Creative Women’s Mastermind! The co-working sessions and our Mastermind sessions are essential to keeping me accountable and on track.
Where do you hope to be this time next year in your online chakra business?
Running my sold out signature programme four times a year. Working 121 with a handful of dedicated clients. Spending more time with my brother and his family in beautiful west Wales.
I live in Bristol with my husband and two dogs. I am a Chakra Healer, avid content creator, journalling addict, meditation lover and enthusiastic tea drinker 😉☕️
My online chakra business – My Chakra Life – is focused on helping busy professional and entrepreneurial women harness the power of the Chakra System to create more ease, balance and harmony in their lives. 🧘♀️🧘♀️🧘♀️
I do 121 healing in my local area – small at the moment, mostly people I know and word of mouth introductions – but I am really focused on growing my online following as I am in the process of creating my signature online programme.
