5 Simple Ways to be Creative

Jan 24, 2020

One of the symptoms of working from home a lot is getting stuck in your own head… and that doesn’t help when you need to get those creative juices flowing to create ideas and produce content!

Sometimes masculine energy can dominate and you find yourself in that state of forcing the idea out in the task at hand.

But that’s not the best way to get the best out of your creative brain!

Whether its social media posts, web copy, ideas for lead magnets, training or other marketing, the list is endless when it comes to creating content. When you need to get creative and the ideas aren’t flowing, the following tips will help…

1. You need to experience Life a Little

Go out, talk to people, listen and watch them.

Go to coffee shops, visitor attractions, shops, events, exhibitions, or even just wander the streets with your senses alert looking at what’s going on around you.

When you’re at home, listen to the greats; the artists, singers, actors – their songs, performances or creation. Be inspired by them. Open yourself up and just enjoy their creativity, soak it all up and feed your brain.

2. Spend time on a personal creative project

Make sure you have a personal creative project on the go that’s nothing to do with business and try to dedicate some time to that every week.

Whether it’s drawing, writing lyrics, stories or singing, cooking, doing puzzles etc., enjoy some personal creative time with no agenda, other than pleasure.

3. Brainstorm and share your idea with peers

If you’re part of a community, like The Mastermind Lounge, get involved. The more you put in, the more you will get out and it’s the best way for the members to get to know you and your business.

Get curious about your idea, experiment and play with it. Pick at it like a thread.

Talk to your friends, clients (depending on the scenario), coworkers and get an outsider’s perspective.

When you get some fresh eyes on your ideas and business, it’s a game changer. They are further away from your business and will see and ask questions about things that won’t have even crossed your mind. It’s so valuable.

I recently asked the members of The Mastermind Lounge for some feedback and the results have been extremely useful for me in a positive way and I’m really excited to implement some of their suggestions.

4.Know that everything can be done differently

And/or better.

Start to question and explore your ideas; How can I do it differently? What else can I do? What if I tried it this way?

Have confidence in yourself and your ability – ask questions and experiment.

5. Try shutting out the noise

This is the complete opposite to number 3. .

Try shutting out the noise, go into that quiet space with just you and your soul.

Try a meditation or a visualization and let the inspiration come from within. We have an innate amount of knowledge within us. Trust yourself and the process and see what comes up for you when you’re in that quiet magical space.

Creativity is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it is. You will have it in your life more if you allow yourself to embrace it, play with it and have fun with it.

Even though we’re grown ups and we have responsibilities, I encourage you to play more; doodle, daydream, perhaps even the odd hopskotch down the pavement! Keep yourself open to inspiration, curiosity and play.
